During Charlie’s athletic career, he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track. At the time Charlie held the school record in the pole vault, but he most excelled on the football field. Charlie was selected at the MSL player of the year in 1974 and went on to earn All Ohio honors as well. He continued his football career at Marietta College where he continued to flourish. During his college career, he was selected as the OAC Defensive Player of the Year in 1977 and led the country that year in Div. III in kickoff return average. He still holds Marietta football records for career interceptions, interception return yardage, punt returns, and punt return yardage. He was part of Marietta’s All Decade Football Team for the 1970s and was inducted in to their Hall of Fame in 2001. Charlie went on to serve the Bloom-Carroll School District as a board of education member for 20 years.
