Tom graduated from BC in 2004 where he was a standout on the football field and the track. As a member of the Bulldogs football team, Tom played tight end, defensive end and linebacker. As a junior, he was a second-team all-district pick at tight end. His senior year, he earned first-team all-league, all-district and all-county honors as a tight end. He was also a second-team all-state pick as a senior after totaling, a then school record, 54 catches for 851 yards. He finished his career at BC with 90 catches for more than 1,300 yards.
As a senior on the track team in 2004, Tom set school records in the 110m hurdles at 15.0 seconds as well as the 300m hurdles with a time of 39.7 seconds. He went on to place 1st in the league, 1st in the district, 2nd in regionals, and 11th at the state meet in the 300m hurdles.
After graduating from BC, Tom attended Miami University with a full athletic scholarship for football. He was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at tight end for Miami. Appearing in 48 games during his college career, he totaled 40 catches for 329 yards and two TDs as well as 38 special teams tackles. He graduated from Miami in 2008 with bachelor’s degree in secondary education.
Tom started his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009. He went on to play 3 seasons with the Green Bay Packers from 2010 to 2012 where he was a part of their Super Bowl XLV winning team in 2011. In 2013 Tom played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers followed by a brief stay with the New Orleans Saints in 2014. He finished his NFL career having played in 53 games with 22 receptions for 323 yards and 5 TDs.
