Bill started his volunteer service to the Bloom-Carroll Athletic program in the late ‘70s, starting with being a member of the football chain gang. After working the chains for 5 years or so, Bill, along with Bill Stebelton, headed to the pressbox to be the official statisticians for the football team. Around that time, Bill also began operating the scoreboard for both boys’ and girls’ basketball, including tournament games hosted here at BC. He continued running the scoreboard for boys’ basketball for over 30 years. Bill was a 1944 graduate of Groveport High School, along with BC Hall of Famer Harold Miller. Bill served in World War 2 and was stationed in Japan as part of the Harborcraft unit. He worked for Nationwide Insurance for 45 years as an underwriter before retiring. He was the post commander of VFW Post 3863 in Canal Winchester. Bill was an avid golf lover, and maintained his life-long friendship with Harold Miller, spending much of his time in retirement working and playing at Pine Hill golf course. Bill was married to his wife Kathryn for 69 years, and had one son, Stu, along with 1 grandson, 2 step granddaughters, 2 great granddaughters, and 2 great step granddaughters.
